Thomas M. Lane peacefully passed away Sept. 24, 2021. Tom was born September 5, 1934 to Hope (nee Hackney) & John Lane in Harriman, TN. Tom was a graduate of Western Hills High School, and served in the US Army from 1954-1956.
Tom is survived by his brother Dennis (Dixie) Lane; his son Scott (Mary) Lane; his grandchildren Emma Lane and Therese Lane, and his beloved partner Donna Lischer. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marlene, his brother Jim, and his sister Nancy.
Tom was an avid football fan, especially of the local Cincinnati high school and college teams. Tom enjoyed reading (especially WW II history), biking, tennis, and all of his dogs over the years. In retirement, Tom and Marlene enjoyed traveling with memorable adventures to Hawaii and biking in Moab, Utah. Tom will be remembered as a good friend with a generous nature, a great sense of humor, and a fun story-teller - some of them even true! His friends will know to raise a glass and toast "see you on the other side". In his final years, Tom was blessed to find a loving partner in Donna. They happily committed their lives to each other; enjoying friends and family and caring for each other.
Tom loved his family deeply. He and Marlene were married 53 years and dedicated their life to their family. They were happy, doting grandparents to their granddaughters Emma and Therese. His son Scott is especially grateful for his dad supporting the expense and commute cross town to St. Xavier High School. Tom was a role model and hero to his son, and a good mentor to his younger brother.
A special thank you to Dr. Marc Alexander and the care team at Hospice of Cincinnati. Donations to Hospice of Cincinnati or the University of Cincinnati Medical School.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there,
I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the autumn rain,
When you awake in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of birds circling in flight,
I am the stars that shine at night,
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there,
I do not sleep.
